Long before Masonite was invented and even before plywood was, boards made of paper, wood fibers, sawdust, rags, rabbit-skin glue and horse glue, were produced as art supplies.

During the entire 1800s a mass of these painting boards were cooked up.

Through analysis and study they can be identified and we have databases showing when and where different types of boards were produced and made available in the trade.
